Senior Accountant

Position Overview

Our growing construction and real estate organization is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Margate, Florida. This individual will play a key role in managing project-related accounting activities, maintaining the general ledger, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific billing and documentation requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, advanced Excel skills, and prior experience within the construction, real estate, or related industries.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and process AIA billing applications and monitor project billings.
• Manage Notice to Owner (NTO) documentation, lien waivers, and lien release processes.
• Assist with the preparation of information and schedules for internal and external audits.
• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
• Prepare and post journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation process.
• Perform detailed job costing analysis and project cost tracking.
• Reconcile corporate credit card accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual variance reports, providing explanations and recommendations.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities.
• Collaborate with project managers and operational leaders to ensure accurate project financial reporting.
• Assist with cash management and other accounting functions as needed.
• Complete special projects and ad hoc financial analyses requested by management.

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience within the construction, real estate, property development, engineering, or a similar project-based industry.
• Strong understanding of (preferred):
  • Job costing
  • Construction billing processes
  • General ledger accounting
  • Financial reporting
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Experience with construction accounting software and ERP systems.
